Ok, è giunto il momento di fare gli auguri di buone feste e visto che non so dove sarò a capodanno le considerazioni del caso…Questo è stato un anno importante:Ho finito il liceo
Ho iniziato l’università con tutto quello che questo comporta (primo passo verso il mio futuro)
Ho finito il mio percorso scout, ora è tempo di darsi veramente da fare
Ho lasciato amici con cui ho vissuto per molti anni condividendo gioie e dolori
Ho trovato amici con cui condividerò i prossimi
Ho capito che non è così facile come credevo azzerare e ricominciare da capo
Ho sbattuto la peggior testata contro il muro che mi ricordi
Ho partecipato alla mia prima manifestazione
Ho recuperato due punti sulla patente
Ho conosciuto gli Arturo Piazza
Ho assistito a due matrimoni ma a nessun funerale

Ho aperto questo blogAlla luce di questi avvenimenti voglio augurare Buon Natale e felice anno nuovo a tutti quelli che conosco e mi conoscono e in particolare: al gruppo del Torino3 capi e meno capi, alla mia ex compagnia, agli amici dell’estate (aria… condizzzionatta… ), ai miei compagni di corso, a joan che non è più quello degli inizi, al baffo, a sfasffso, a fulvietto, alla bionda, a DcHouse (che spero gli vada di traverso il pandoro), ai miei vecchi compagni della VD che spero abbiano trovato ciascuno la propria strada, agli amici del quartiere che non riesco mai a vedere, agli amici della Marchesa (maestri, atleti e preparatori vari), alle persone che ho incontrato e conosciuto anche solo per poco tempo, agli amici che hanno trovato la loro strada lontano da Torino e a tutti quelli che sicuramente ho dimenticato ma che voglio comunque includere in questo augurio.

Approfitto anche di questo articolo per chiudere ufficialmente questo primo anno di blog, sarò impegnato con gli esami fino al 23 gennaio e non so quanto tempo potrò dedicargli fino ad allora: un grazie a tutti quelli che fino ad oggi mi hanno seguito leggendo e commentando i miei articoli.

E come potevo mancare all’invito di Jak-o0! Eccomi davanti alla porta della casa destinata ad ospitare il pranzo di rito con ventisei teglie traboccanti di… AGNOLOTTI FATTI IN CASA.

Ah! il sapore delle cose del passato, tutte le nonne e le mamme del mondo che si radunano tre giorni prima di Natale come ad un Sabba per preparare la pasta, per tagliarla, per piegarla e infine per buttarla in quattordici pentoloni di acqua bollente pronta per essere divorata in meno di cinque minuti dai famelici invitati…

( Ok, in mancanza delle capacità o dei mezzi necessari sono validi anche agnolotti confezionati ma dove me la mettete l’atmosfera, dai! )

Bene se vi è venuta voglia l’ultima cosa che posso fare è darvi la ricetta, vi inviterei a casa mia ma poi mi sa che tutti non ci stiamo.

Non mi resta che augurare a tutti buone feste e sopratutto BUON APPETITO!

The doomed ship

Today I awoke, as usual, I had my shower, I hade my breackfast and I read the neswpaper… Now: why they should make me angry early in the morning? It was a good morning (and if the good day can be seen from morning…) but I had a bad idea: read the paper!

The article in question was about the growth of GDP [PIL in italian] in the past year of various countries of the world. Try to guess: what’s Italy position in the global ranking? Only Zimbabwe (-2%) and Lebanon are under our position!

We had a growth of 1.6% in 2007! Shame! shame and shame! Who is the responsable of that? The usual unknown unpunished (You know perfectly who they are).

Think about it: Iran was at 3%, Kenya at 5.4%, Angola 21.1%, China 10.1%, Romania 5.5%, Poland 5.1% and so on…

With this trend what will be the richest countries in the future? Of course not mine!

I need RAM!

It’s time I have an idea: the new “Microsoft Windows Vista” needs too much RAM to run and that is not strange but it becames if we consider this two facts:

1. There are other applications (for Linux) that works with lower minimum system requirements but offers superior graphics effects (something that we will see on Win in a century), I’m talking of CompizFusion and his famous “Cube” and many other effects.

2. After 2000-2001 there was a critical collapse in sales of DRAM.

How this two elements concern with my theory it’s what I’m going to write expleining them one at a time but before I start I want you to remember that what will follow IT’S ONLY A PERSONAL THEORY! so now let’s start:

1. Here follow a scheme with the comparison of the minimum system requirements to run Win Vista Aero and Ubuntu+Beryl (for the last one I was not able to find official data but I have considered lots of experiences from posts on various dedicated blogs).

Windows Vista

NB. you have to consider that with less than 2 GB the system is slowed and it use the 45% of your RAM only to calculate th emovement of your cursor.

Ubuntu + Beryl

With a 500 MHz CPU, 128 MB RAM and 32MB GPU it works with no problems!

Microsoft explain this with innovations on their new system like the Aero effects and SuperFetch the new prefetch function that allowed to upload in the memory the most used applications giving them priority on those that are working in background mode. Ok, that’s clear but there is too much differences between the two OS (Linux and Win I mean), there is something that is not clear, I can’t believe that Microsoft programmers are absolutely incapable compared with Linux developers. I think that there’s something misterious in the waste of resorces that Win has on an harware architecture but what and especially WHY? Look at the next passage…

2. Take a look at the RAM stock market int the last 6-7 years. Here some examples:

We can see a peak in the graphs between 1999 – 2000 the moment that in Italy was called “il boom dei tecnologici” after which there was a dramatic drop that lasts until today. Those are the facts, what I want to say is that the appearence on the market of a software (Win Vista) that leads to forced hardware improvements especially (but not only) in RAM almost certainly has helped the market. Nothing wrong but if this connection was not casual and, on the contrary, it was a combined and studied agreement?

We could talk of trust, between software industries (one in particoluar ;D) and hardware ones and there is another important point: if Microsoft was one of the major shareholders of them? This is something I cannot know (no time and resources) but could be the last and most important heat.

Nothing more to say, do your conclusion and, before you buy an already assembled PC with a OS someone has choosen for you, think about it, with your choice you can influence more than a trade.

Greener electronics

Lots of things have to be considered while we want to buy electroincs (a phone for examle or a PC), how much it cost, what are its functions, how much “cool” you will appeare with it, if it is open source or not… so lots of parameters but there is one I have never considered but, thinking about it, it appeare as the most important one: What is its environmental impact?

Searching on the web I’ve finally found the answer, a detailed study by Greenpeace, the “Guide to greener electronics“. In this report the most important companies in the business are analyzed and ranked (with a mark from 0 to 10) on the base of this criteria:

1. clean up their products by eliminating hazardous substances ;

• a chemicals policy based on Precautionary Principle
• chemicals managment
• Timeline for phasing out all use of vinyl plastic PVC and of brominated flame retardant
• PVC and BFR-free models of electronic products on the market.

2. takeback and recycle their products responsibly once they became obsolete.

• financing of end-of-life management of products
• voluntary takeback and recycling in every country in which products are sold
• provides clare information for individual customers on takeback and recycling services in all countries where there are sales of its products
• Reports on amount of waste electrical and electronic equipement collected and recycled

On the basis of this information 18 companies are classified: the best are Sony Ericsson and Samsung with a mark of 7.7/10 (no one was able to obtain the best mark ) and the worst is Nintendo with 0/10! , Microsoft is 2.7/10 and Nokia and Motorola recived penality points for corporate misbehaviour as a result of Greenpeace testing of the companies’ takeback practice in the Philippines, Thailand, Russia, Argentina and India.

So that’s all, think about it, this is too important to ignore, this is too important for our future in which technology is getting more and more predominant but our resources increasingly critical.

My office is on the Web

Modern business is increasingly about fast-response transactions, often represented and abstracted as business documents. Creating business documents using tools like Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is easy but sharing these documents across boundaries – with team members, customers, partners and other stakeholders – is an arduous task.Ok, I know, that is nothing new. It’s years that lots of on-line “office suites” exist but today I want to talk about something that can improve this kind of service: I’m talking of Live Documents the last creation of InstaColl (the inventors of Hotmail).

Live Documents is nothing less than other similar programs on the web and furthermore it gives the possibility to work off-line with a plug-in that transform our office application in a smart client with a local cache that allowed you to syncronize your documents with the Live contacts version once you connect your PC to the Internet. Other advantages are that many people at the same time can modify the same document and high security assured.

This will sound good for firms but what are the advantages for privates, why using it and not other similar services as, for example the famous GoogleDoc? Well, of course first of all because it’s free but, you can say, it’s not the only and that is true but it is the only to offer the two solutions: working on-line with your browser with a user-friendly interface (very similar to the MS Office one) or doing it off-line with this special plug-in totally interfaced with MS Office (but shortly even with OpenOffice) that allowed to take advantage of all its potential.

So, summarizing, Live doc will unify all the advantages of a web application (shareability, interoperability, synchronizeability…) with the potencial of a static desktop software, it is free, it is Unix compatible (or it will be)… what else? (Nespresso of course )

Just a note: I have not tried it yet but I’m waiting for their invitation so I’ll be able to write more for personal experience, checking if what they are saying it’s really what it is.

INTERNET = LIBERTA’?

Questo articolo lo scriverò in italiano, per prima cosa perchè è giusto che tutti i diretti interessati capiscano il problema e in secondo luogo perchè mi vergogno al solo pensiero che un abitante di qualche pese civile si trovasse a leggere queste cose e magari le raccontasse in giro, come si suol dire, i panni sporchi laviamoceli a casa nostra.

E dire che noi Italiani ai panni sporchi ci siamo abituati, assuefatti, tanto da rimanerne annoiati e disinteressati. Ma fortunatamente c’è chi pensa al nostro benessere, non sia mai che la casta di parassiti che ci “governa” tolleri l’idea di un popolo annoiato (panem et circenses dicevano i latini) e non passa momento che non venga in mente qualche nuova, brillante trovata come quella di cui vi parlerò nelle righe seguenti.

Il problema fondamentale è illustrato in questo video di Leonardo Facco del movimento libertario italiano (vi invito ad ascoltarlo con attenzione)

AVETE CAPITO BENE? AVETE AFFERRATO IL PROBLEMA?

La legge in questione è stata proposta questa estate e approvata formalmente dal consiglio dei ministri il 12 ottobre 2007 su proposta del Prodi, qui potete trovare il comunicato stampa [la parte interessante è verso il fondo]

Per capire comunque meglio e più a fondo il problema cito integralmente l’articolo di Punto Informatico inerente la questione:

Roma – Questa minaccia era proprio sfuggita agli occhi di Punto Informatico e, purtroppo, anche a quelli di molti altri. Ma non è sfuggita a Valentino Spataro, curatore di Civile.it, che in un editoriale appena pubblicato avverte tutti del siluro sparato dal Governo contro la rete in pieno agosto e approvato formalmente dal Consiglio dei ministri lo scorso 12 ottobre.La novità è presto detta: qualsiasi attività web dovrà registrarsi al ROC, ossia al Registro degli operatori di Comunicazione, se il disegno di legge si tradurrà in una norma a tutti gli effetti. Registrazione che porta con sé burocrazia e procedure.

Il testo parte bene, spiega che “La disciplina prevista dalla presente legge in tema di editoria quotidiana, periodica e libraria ha per scopo la tutela e la promozione del principio del pluralismo dell’informazione affermato dall’articolo 21 della Costituzione e inteso come libertà di informare e diritto ad essere informati”.

Bene, anche perché esplicita che si parla di editoria e non, ad esempio, di pubblicazioni spurie prive di intenti editoriali, come può esserlo un sito personale. Il problema, come osserva Spataro, è che poi il testo si contraddice quando va a definire cosa è un prodotto editoriale.

Una definizione che chi legge Punto Informatico da almeno qualche anno sa essere già oggi molto spinosa e che, con questo disegno governativo, assume nuovi inquietanti connotati:

“Per prodotto editoriale si intende qualsiasi prodotto contraddistinto da finalità di informazione, di formazione, di divulgazione, di intrattenimento, che sia destinato alla pubblicazione, quali che siano la forma nella quale esso è realizzato e il mezzo con il quale esso viene diffuso” (art 2, comma 1).

Chi avesse ancora dei dubbi su cosa sia prodotto editoriale può leggere il comma seguente del medesimo articolo, che stabilisce cosa non è prodotto editoriale:

<”Non costituiscono prodotti editoriali quelli destinati alla sola informazione aziendale, sia ad uso interno sia presso il pubblico”.

Chi ritenesse che questa definizione non si applichi, per esempio, al proprio blog personale dove pubblica di quando in quando un post, dovrà ricredersi passando al comma successivo dell’articolo 2, il terzo comma, che recita:

La disciplina della presente legge non si applica ai prodotti discografici e audiovisivi.

Il Governo, nel redigere questo disegno di legge, non si è dimenticato, peraltro, dei prodotti editoriali integrativi o collaterali che sono quei prodotti, compresi quelli discografici o audiovisivi, che siano “diffusi unitamente al prodotto editoriale principale”.

Rimarrebbe una scappatoia, quella delle pubblicazioni, on e off line, che sono sì di informazione o divulgazione, o formazione o intrattenimento, ma non sono a scopo di lucro. Rimarrebbe se solo il Governo non ci avesse pensato. Ed invece dedica alla cosa l’intero articolo 5:

“Per attività editoriale si intende ogni attività diretta alla realizzazione e distribuzione di prodotti editoriali, nonché alla relativa raccolta pubblicitaria. L’esercizio dell’attività editoriale può essere svolto anche in forma non imprenditoriale per finalità non lucrative”.

Un paragrafo che dunque non lascia scampo ai “prodotti” non professionali, lasciando forse, ma è una questione accademica, un micro-spiraglio a chi non ottiene o non cerca pubblicità di sorta sulle proprie pubblicazioni.

Qualcuno potrebbe pensare che il solleone ad agosto abbia giocato brutti scherzi. In realtà all’articolo 7 viene raccontato il motivo del provvedimento. Con espresso riferimento a quanto pubblicato online, si spiega che l’iscrizione al ROC serve “anche ai fini delle norme sulla responsabilità connessa ai reati a mezzo stampa”.

Senza contare la montagna di introiti extra che il Registro otterrebbe con questa manovra, ne consegue che la giustificazione che viene addotta a questo abominio nuovo provvedimento sia la necessità di tutelare dalla diffamazione. Come se fino ad oggi chiunque avesse avuto mano libera nel diffamare chiunque altro. Il che non è, tanto che più volte siti non professionali e altre pubblicazioni online, anche del tutto personali come dei blog, e anche senza alcuna finalità di lucro, si sono ritrovati coinvolti in un processo per diffamazione.

“Potessero, – conclude Spataro – chiederebbero la carta d’identità a chiunque parla in pubblico. Su internet il controllo è più facile. E imporre procedure burocratiche per l’apertura di un blog sarà il modo migliore per far finire l’internet Italiana”.

Ecco a cosa sono giunti infine i porci scaldapoltrone del nostro governo (e non Governo), si sono accorti quanto è pericoloso il mezzo Internet, della libertà che mette a disposizione di tutti, del suo non essere uno strumento democratico ma libertario che per loro si traduce in non controllabile.
Probabilmente questa legge non entrerà mai in vigore o, perlomeno, non in questa forma ma è inquietante che qualcuno lassù nella stanza dei bottoni ci abbia anche solo pensato. Due cose possiamo allora fare, secondo me, come semplici individui liberi con in mano un mouse e una tastiera: Primo schifarci (se abbiamo ancora una dignità) e far girare il più possibile la notizia, secondo gioire e compiacerci del fatto che se vogliono controllare un mezzo vuol dire che di questo hanno paura e se ne hanno paura vuol dire che è efficace e se è efficace allora dobbiamo farlo fruttare al massimo: per la nostra libertà, la nostra dignità e i valori in cui crediamo non lasciamoci trasformare in apatici Pattalorrinchiti Grazie per essere arrivati a leggere fino a qui e scusate per il lungo sfogo ma quando è troppo è troppo, lottiamo per la nostra libertà e ricordiamoci che

Si può fregare una persona per sempre o tutti quanti una volta ma non si può fregare tutti per sempre…

Look at this…

Do you like it?, I konw it’s not the best thing you’ve ever seen but it’s only experimental. This is the paint I want to use to show my last idea… what I’ve called GOOGLE COLLAGING !!!!!! [GC for friends]

It’s a new (for what I’ve seen on the Web until now) digital art technique that consist in these few simple passages:

1. searching for photos or images on the web using “Google images”;
2. modifying the images (only “cut” and “resize” commands are allowed);
3. preparing the collage putting togheter the images that we have found on the Web;
4. sharing our piece of art with all the others internauts (this is fondamental ;D) .

I think that is not difficult to do and in the same time it gives the possibility to everyone to express himself with lots of potential.

Technical notes:

1. the program I used to prepare the GC is Gimp 2.4, I think it’s a very good one, you can download it here: www.gimp.org (and here there is the user manual www.gimp.org/docs/)

2. if you want to share your GC on the web you can create a Deviantart account, look for the link on my Blogroll!!

Stop MSN!

Stop using Msn, there is a valid alternative called Amsn. It’s similar to Msn (also from a graphic point of view) so it is very easy to use but in the same time it has lots of useful plugins for a more specific an depth use. It’s the best and easier to use messaging program I’ve tried.

And if you are still not convinced think about that: it’s not a Microsoft program and it will work on your OS whatever it will be!!

Anti Gentiloni Divide

Look at this article posted on beppe Grillo’s Blog:Paolo Gentiloni ha fatto il bando sul WiMax. Paolo è uno che non ha tempo da perdere. E’ sempre al tennis con il suo amico Ermete e nei momenti di relax è immerso nella lettura di Liala. Ha fatto carriera, da portavoce di Rutelli al Comune di Roma è diventato ministro delle Comunicazioni. Un ministero che richiede grande impegno e competenza. Paolo conosce i suoi limiti. Le leggi e i bandi li fa scrivere agli addetti del settore:
- per la deroga dei termini del digitale terrestre ha telefonato a Confalonieri che gli ha dato un paio di dritte. Ora Fede non ha nulla da temere: non diventerà digitale fino al 2012. Rete4 è salva
- per dare nuovi contributi alla stampa e tappare la bocca ai blog ha usato un prestanome. Dato che Paolo è il prestanome di Rutelli, si tratta quindi di un presta-prestanome, il mitico Ricardo (con una c sola) Levi. La Levi-Prodi, scritta sotto dettatura di Berlusconi e De Benedetti, lui non l’ha letta. L’ha anche confessato ai 700.000 blogger italiani e ha detto che in futuro sarà più attento
- per il WiMax, la tecnologia che trasmette a 50 chilometri con costi di impianto molto bassi che dovrebbe risolvere il problema dell’ultimo miglio, Paolo ha avuto un’intuizione straordinaria: chi meglio dei responsabili del nostro digital divide può risolvere il problema del digital divide? Dopo un rapido consulto con Telecom, Vodafone, H3G e Wind ha deciso di farli partecipare al bando. “Per incrementare la competizione nelle telecomunicazioni” ha spiegato. Le frequenze per il WiMax di proprietà dello Stato saranno consegnate ai responsabili del ritardo dell’Italia che, secondo i dati dell’Unione Europea, è sotto la media dell’Europa allargata dei 27. Per facilitare l’ingresso dei grandi operatori Paolo ha fissato il prezzo d’asta complessivo di tutte le licenze WiMax in 45 milioni di euro. Un’elemosina per lo Stato. Un prezzo così basso era giustificabile per fare entrare nuovi operatori, come è successo in Francia, non per i soliti noti che guadagnano miliardi di euro. Dopo la pubblicazione del bando, preso dall’entusiasmo per aver superato Gasparri, Paolo ha dichiarato: “Il Governo conferma così gli impegni a ridurre il divario digitale ancora presente in molte Regioni italiane”.Grazie a un ricorso della società MGM che non vuole l’ammissione degli operatori UMTS (quelli attuali) alla gara il bando WiMax ha subito un colpo d’arresto. Proviamo noi a dargliene uno mortale con una petizione alla Comunità Europea.Firmate la petizione e diffondete il box di Anti Gentiloni Divide in Rete come un virus.

for the first time

Hi everybody,That is the first article of my blog. I decided not to use a space on “my space” because of the problems that hotmail site gives to browser that are not Internet Explorer. I believe in open source projects and I dont’ have absolutely any intentions of change my browser for a Microsoft one so I did that.
